Leavin on a Jet Plane

There is no better feeling in the entire world than a Friday afternoon. It reminds me of being a little kid, staring at the clock til the last school bell rang and racing home knowing you have an entire weekend of freedom ahead of you. (maybe, thats why I chose to be a teacher? I get to live out that feeling every Friday?)

But this Friday is different, it's not only a weekend of freedom, its an entire week! and what a big week it will be!

I am currently blogging from the Sports Bar at Logan Airport awaiting my flight to Dublin! Gotta love my priorities. Check-in, security, bathroom, beer.

and I don't think any beer tastes quite so delicious as a well-earned one the first hour of your vacation. I will be paying twice what its worth, but at this point, I'd fork over my life savings.

Stay tuned as the trip continues! I've got a longgggggg night ahead of me (layover in Philly followed by overnight flight to Dublin)

Snow Day? I think not.

This is where I wish I was:

That would be the view from my bed when it's snowing outside.

Instead, I am here: the only school in the greater Boston area that DOESN'T have a snow day.

I will continue more this evening. If I'm not in prison for throwing a high school student out of the 3rd floor window at some point today, that is. February vacation, where are you??? I NEED you!!!

Identity Crisis

I am a stalker. and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I facebook stalk, I blog stalk, and now that I've joined twitter, I'll probably twitter stalk.

On any given day, I read several different blogs... whether its my friend's family blog, the latest celebrity gossip, a good deal on shoes, or healthy living recipe, I stalk them all.

Now that its my turn in the blog world, I've been struggling with what kind of blog this should be. It seems like so many of the ones I read fit into one category or another. However, I don't have that niche I fall into. I don't have an adorable baby to proudly show off and I definitely don't have the where-with-all to document all my foods and exercise activity akin to some fo the food bloggers I follow. I like to shop, but its such a personal, theraputic experience, I don't think I could accurately translate the feeling of pure joy one gets shopping. None of them seem right for me.

So what is the identity of this blog? I'm not quite sure yet. I think it might be too early to tell. This blog is like a nice wine, it gets better over time ;) Every day this week, I am going to post a picture that represents a part of myself...a get-to-know you activity circa 5th grade, if you will.

My first picture is two of my favorite things: red wine and cooking. This recipe in particular is a favorite. It's a homemade spaghetti sauce that I learned through years of watching my dad. To this day, the smell of this sauce as it simmers on the stove on a cold, winter night warms me right down to my toes! and the red wine? Well, let's be honest here. Who doesn't love it?

(p.s. Sorry the picture is so blurry. It wasn't taken on my super cool new camera, it was taken on my super lame blackberry, but it still looks delicious, no?)

The girl who cried blog

Did your parents ever tell you the story of the boy who cried wolf? It was a favorite in my household growing up and I highly recommend it for anyone in need of a little moral virtue (perhaps to offset your Jersey Shore addiction?)

Well I am the girl who cried blog. I'm so sorry Mom and Dad. You see, I had a blog before and I wrote sporadically at best...and I told many people I would write faithfully. and I didn't. and for that, I am sorry.

But this time, my friends, this time it is different. I am starting anew. New blog, new look (thanks to my lovely and amazing friend Rachel at RV Designs), and a new challenge for myself.

This is me:
and I'm very good at talking. I don't know if its being a New Englander, being Irish, or perhaps just being me, but I can talk a pretty big game.

My New Year's Resolution this year was to stop talking about doing things and ACTUALLY do them, so it's time for me to put my money where my mouth is and I've enlisted the help of my blog to keep me honest.

I'm going to use Quarterlife Quandary as a means of holding myself accountable and keeping track of my journey to talk less and "do" more (although, its a bit ironic if you think about it, because I'll be "talking" on here about all the things I'm "doing", won't I?)

There are quite a few things on the agenda for 2010 that I hope to accomplish and document along the way:
1. This blog. I've invested in this. It's real this time. Plus, look at how amazing the fonts in my title, tag line and side bar are? How could I NOT come back and repeatedly post? More importantly, how could YOU not come back and repeatedly read and comment with fonts as spectacular as these ones?

2. Running. I've ALWAYS wanted to be a runner and while I haven't fallen in love with it yet, I can say that we are happily dating. My end goal is to run a marathon so I'm using this blog to mark the milestones in my relationship with running. I think it'll also help me get off the couch on those days when I'd rather watch re-runs of Real Housewives of the OC than get my miles in.

3. Photography. I'm the co-parent of this sweet little number and while it's in my custody, I want to be sure I'm getting full use out of it.

Plus, on those days when I have absolutely nothing of value or interest to write about, I can post fun pictures!

so here goes nothing.... Merriam-Webster says a quandary is defined as
a state of complexity or uncertainty. Well, life is certainly full of unexpected surprises, complex happenings, and question marks, but isn't that what makes it all so exciting?
